A People Sent by God

July 7, 2026.

Scripture: John 20:19–23 “As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”

Imagine This…

Imagine sitting in a locked room because fear feels safer than risk.

That is where the disciples were after the resurrection. They were not standing boldly in the streets. They were hiding. Uncertain. Anxious. Closed in.

Then Jesus came and stood among them.

His first word was not shame.

It was peace.

What Is There to Learn?

Before Jesus sends His disciples, He gives them what they need most: His peace, His presence, and His Spirit.

  1. Jesus Meets Fear with Peace.
He does not wait for the disciples to become brave. He brings peace into the room where they are afraid.
  2.
  3. Jesus Sends Us Like He Was Sent.
We represent His posture: surrender, humility, servanthood, sacrifice, truth, and grace.
  4.
  5. Jesus Empowers What He Commands.
He breathes the Spirit upon them. We are not sent in human strength alone.

Bold Steps of Faith

Identify one place where fear keeps you closed off.

  • A conversation you avoid.
  •
  • A person you keep at a distance.
  •
  • A setting where you stay silent.
  •
  • A relationship that needs courage and grace.

Receive the peace of Christ, then take one faithful step as His representative.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where am I tempted to hide behind fear?
  2.
  3. What would it look like to represent Jesus with peace and courage?
  4.
  5. Who needs to experience the presence of Christ through me?

Prayer

“Jesus, meet me with Your peace and send me with Your presence. Help me represent You with courage, humility, and love.”
