Hope That Moves Us Forward

“Hope That Moves Us Forward”
December 30th, 2025.
Text: Hebrews 12:1–3
The close of a year naturally invites reflection: what we celebrate, what we grieve, what we wish had gone differently. But as followers of Jesus, we do not end the year with nostalgia or regret—we end it with hope.
Not sentimental hope.
Not “I hope things get better” hope.
Not self-powered optimism.
Biblical hope is confidence in what God will do because of who God is.
As we stand on the threshold of 2026, the message of Christmas still rings true: God has stepped into our world, and because He has, the future is not something to fear or control—it is something to walk into with trust.
The same God who broke into darkness with light now calls us to run with endurance into a new year with our eyes fixed on Him.

Hebrews 12:1–3 gives a powerful framework for stepping into the future with grounded, durable hope.
1. Hope becomes forward movement when we release what hinders. “Let us throw off everything that hinders…” Some of the things that drained hope in 2025 do not deserve to follow us into 2026—old patterns, misplaced expectations, discouragement, or distractions that kept us spiritually lethargic.
2. Hope becomes endurance when we run the race God sets, not the race we choose. “Run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” We lose hope when we insist on our own preferences. We find hope when we embrace God’s assignments—big or small, comfortable or stretching.
3. Hope becomes confidence when our eyes are fixed on Jesus. “Looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” Our future does not rest on our performance, our plans, or our predictability. It rests on Christ—who writes the story and faithfully completes it.
4. Hope becomes courage when we consider His endurance. Jesus endured the cross, the shame, and the hostility of sinners so He might bring restoration to the world and redemption to us. The more we meditate on His endurance, the more perseverance He ignites within us.
Christmas reminds us that God has already taken the decisive step toward us. Hebrews reminds us that He now calls us to take our next step toward Him.

As we enter 2026, here are questions that help turn Christmas hope into New Year action:
What needs to be laid down so you can run unencumbered—fear, frustration, resentment, or complacency?
What race has God marked out for you? Not the race of your preferences, but His path of obedience, compassion, and mission.
Where is God inviting you to step forward by faith rather than waiting for circumstances to be ideal?
Whose hope might God ignite through you in this next season?
The birth of Christ is not simply a moment to remember; it is a foundation to build upon. Hope is not merely a comfort—it is a calling.
As 2025 draws to a close, may the One who entered our world continue to lead us into His future. And may the enduring hope of Jesus ignite fresh courage, renewed faith, and joyful obedience as we step into 2026 with our eyes fixed on Him.
