How Spiritual Growth Actually Happens

How Spiritual Growth Actually Happens

ENGAGE THE HEART
Most of us have more access to Bible studies, sermons, podcasts, and Christian content than any generation before us. And yet many followers of Jesus still quietly ask the same question: Why does real change feel so slow?
That question isn’t new. Abraham didn’t have a Bible, a study guide, or a small group curriculum. He had a calling from God—and a life that forced him to trust God in real time. His faith was shaped not by information alone, but by learning to recognize and respond to God in everyday life.
That is still how God forms people.
EDUCATE THE HEAD
Spiritual growth is not primarily about knowing more; it is about becoming different. Scripture is essential, but transformation happens when God’s truth collides with real circumstances—relationships, pressure, waiting, frustration, and obedience.
This is why growth often feels difficult. It requires awareness. It requires learning to notice how God is present and active in the ordinary moments of life.
That conviction is at the heart of the Growth Adventure. Rather than trying to change everything at once, participants focus intentionally on one area God wants to grow. Each day begins with a simple prayer—giving God permission to use anything and everything in that day to cultivate that quality.
The Bible affirms this kind of focused growth. Peter writes that when specific qualities are “yours and increasing,” they keep us from being ineffective or unfruitful in our faith (2 Peter 1:5–8). Growth doesn’t happen accidentally, and it rarely happens all at once.
When we name what God is forming in us, everyday life takes on new meaning. What once felt random begins to feel intentional. God uses real life as His classroom.
EMPOWER THE HANDS
What we witnessed this past Sunday were not perfect stories—but honest ones. People learning to connect Scripture to circumstance, prayer to practice, and faith to everyday life.
The invitation for all of us is simple: ask God what He wants to grow in you right now. Not everything. Something. Then begin watching how He uses real life to do it.
Spiritual growth isn’t about escaping life—it’s about meeting God in the middle of it.

SO WHAT?
• What is one area of character or faith God may be inviting you to grow right now?
• What would change if you began each day by giving God permission to use real life—not just quiet time—to shape you?
• How might your frustrations, delays, or difficult relationships be invitations rather than obstacles?
• Are you approaching spiritual growth as information to master—or as a life to be lived by faith?
If you’re ready to move from knowing about God to experiencing His work in everyday life, the Growth Adventure is designed to help you do exactly that.
