Text: Galatians 5:16–17

Why Growth Often Feels Like Tension

Many people assume that spiritual maturity should feel peaceful and effortless. So, when inner conflict shows up, they think something is wrong.  But Paul tells us the opposite. The tension you feel inside—the pull between old habits and new desires—is not evidence of failure. It’s evidence that something new is alive in you.  The battle within is not a glitch in the Christian life. It’s part of it.

Two Competing Voices, One Direction

Galatians 5:16–17 describes an ongoing conflict between the flesh and the Spirit. These are not occasional disagreements—they are opposing ways of living.  The flesh pulls us toward self-rule, comfort, and control. The Spirit draws us toward trust, surrender, and transformation. The struggle occurs because both are speaking—but only one should lead.  Walking by the Spirit doesn’t eliminate the battle. It changes who sets the direction in the middle of it.

How to Fight Without Losing Heart

A Spirit-filled follower learns to respond differently to inner conflict.

• Don’t panic when the struggle shows up.

• Don’t try to defeat the flesh with sheer willpower.

• Keep choosing to walk by the Spirit, even when progress feels slow.

Spiritual growth isn’t about winning every moment. It’s about staying in the walk.

May you be captivated by His Spirit,

May you understand the power of His presence,

May you triumph in the battle.
