You Don’t Represent Christ to Earn Your Seat

You Don’t Represent Christ to Earn Your Seat
March 10, 2026.
1 Peter 3:15–17 — Communion Sunday.
There’s a quiet pressure many Christians feel:
Don’t mess this up.
Don’t say it wrong.
Don’t embarrass Jesus.
When faith conversations surface, something inside tightens.
What if I’m not good enough to represent Him?
That’s performance talking.
And performance fuels fear.
But Communion disrupts that narrative.
When you come to the table, you’re not proving anything.
You’re receiving something.
The bread and cup don’t say, “Be impressive.”
They say, “It is finished.”
Your seat at Christ’s table wasn’t secured by your consistency.
It was secured by His sacrifice.
That changes how you speak for Him.
Peter says:
“Sanctify Christ as Lord… always be ready… do it with gentleness and respect.”
Notice what’s missing.
He doesn’t say:
Be flawless.
Win arguments.
Dominate the room.
He assumes readiness.
He commands gentleness.
He calls for a clear conscience.
Why?
Because secure people don’t have to prove themselves.
If your belonging depends on your performance, you’ll either stay silent or get defensive.
But if your belonging is settled, your voice steadies.
You can say,
“I don’t have every answer. But I know who has me.”
That’s not weakness.
That’s confidence rooted in grace.
On Communion Sunday, when stories are shared, we’re not celebrating perfection. We’re celebrating redemption.
You don’t represent Christ to earn your seat.
You represent Him because your seat is secure.
· Communion humbles you.
· Communion anchors you.
· Communion sends you.
When fear whispers, “Don’t speak,” remember the table.
You’re not auditioning.
You belong.
And belonging produces a different kind of voice —
gentle, steady, confident.
Reflect
- Where do you feel pressure to perform spiritually?
- How would your tone change if you truly believed your place in Christ was secure?
- What conversation might God be preparing you for this week?
The table isn’t the reward for boldness.
It’s the foundation of it.
